Green Tea vs Black Tea

Green Tea Kettle

When looking at green tea vs black tea you will have to know something about each tea to make a full comparison.

Also, decide on whether you are talking about comparing health benefits or just flavor.

Different ones may win out in different categories. So let's look into this closer.

Green Tea

This tea is brewed with leaves of the Camellia sinensis which has been slightly oxidized during processing.

It comes from China where it is consumed on a regular basis. There are many varieties of this tea grown within the countries that cultivate it.

Over the years tests have been done to look at the health benefits of the green tea.

There have been findings that this tea lessens the risk for heart disease along with preventing particular kinds of cancer. It may also help with weight management.

Other potential areas where this tea can help:

* Rheumatoid arthritis

* Infections

* High cholesterol levels

* Impaired immune function

What does the green tea contain?

It contains catechin polyphenols especially the EGCG or epigallocatechin gallate. Try saying that a couple of times in a row:)

This is a very strong anti-oxidant. EGCG also is thought to lower the LDL levels of cholesterol and inhibits blood clots from abnormally forming.

Tea Black Tea

For the green tea vs black tea battle we will now look into the black tea.

This tea variety receives more oxidation during processing than green, oolong, or white tea does.

It too comes from the Camellia sinensis plant.

The black though comes from a larger-leafed version of the plant than the green.

This tea normally has a stronger flavor. It has a higher percentage of caffeine in it that the green or other less oxidized teas.

The green has its EGCG to give possible health benefits. The black has thearubigens and theaflavins that give their own potential benefits beyond a distinctive flavor and dark color.

For one thing studies have shown that drinking the black tea reduces the risk for having a stroke.

The flavonoids help to lower the bad or LDL cholesterol. This may lead to the occurrence of heart and attacks and strokes. Also, black tea may help reverse blood vessels functioning abnormally.

The flavor preference between the two teas is a personal one.

Cultural Differences

As a culture many of the eastern countries have preferred the green flavor wise. The western countries have preferred the black tea flavor wise. The green is picking up popularity in the western world recently.

So you be the judge on the green tea vs black tea. Consult with your doctor about drinking tea and your health.

Drink both teas and compare to see which one you like the best. As you can see they both have benefits for your health.
