Delicious Chai
Tea Recipe

Looking for a Chai Tea Recipe? You might like this one.

Several years ago while at work, I discovered this tea.

The cafe in the building was serving it and I decided to give it a try.

It was new to our area at the time. I was pleasantly surprised by the good taste of the tea.

The price was a bit higher than regular tea sold in the store, but I think well worth, especially if it is well made.

What is Chai tea?

It most often a black tea with milk, sugar and spices added to obtain this flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon fennel seed
  • 6 green cardamom pods
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 (1/4-inch) piece ginger root, peeled and thinly sliced

  • 6 black peppercorns
  • 7 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons Darjeeling tea
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 cup milk
Directions
    1. In a boiling medium size pan of water, place the following ingredients:

Fennel seed, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon stick, ginger root, peppercorns. After boiling for 5 minutes, remove from heat and let the mixture steep for 10 minutes.

    2. Now, after you add the tea and bring it to a boil, lower the temperature and let simmer for at least 5 minutes. When this is done you will need to strain the mix and make sure to throw away the spices.

The tea should then be returned to the pan where you will now mix in brown sugar and milk.

    3. You are ready to serve.
