Flower on Table

Facts About Tea

Some interesting facts about tea according to the United Kingdom Tea Council are, 98% of people put milk in their tea, 30% take sugar.

I feel that without the sugar it is not the same and I use very little milk.

There are some members of my family who drink their tea with absolutely nothing, no milk, sugar or lemon.

I guess they are getting the true flavor with nothing else in it to change the taste.

Tidbits About Tea:

  • Tea is a good source of fluoride.
  • Tea comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant.
  • The Camellia Sinensis plant can produce tea for 50 years.
  • The flavor of tea (Camellia Sinensis) varies from the region it is grown due to soil and climate.
  • High tea got its name from being served on a dining room table (high table) as compared to a tea table (low table).
  • Instead of wine, tea can be used to deglaze when cooking (I don’t cook but it is an interesting fact).

Afternoon Tea

There is confusion about afternoon tea (low tea) and high tea. High tea actually refers to they type of table that is used for example, a dining room table, to place the food and drinks on. It is equivalent to supper in the working class home and is a substantial meal served around 6:00 P.M.

Afternoon tea is served around 4:00 p.m. on a low table, called a tea table. It is usually a light meal served with thin sandwiches, scones and biscuits to tide people over until a later dinner.
