Tasty Ginger Tea Recipes

Ginger tea

My friend told me her family had many ginger tea recipes.

She then proceeded to put a piece of ginger on the table.

I had no idea what it was at the time. It was kind of light brownish and knotty looking.

My friend explained to me I should use it to help my cold.

It was common in her family to use it when someone was sick. She used it as a girl growing up in India.

What is Ginger?

Zingiber officinale or Ginger root is an ingredient in ginger tea.

The roots volatile oils and pungent phenol compounds appears to be what makes it so useful.

Its properties have been thought to reduce inflammation. It has been used for over 2,000 years in China to aid in stomach problems and digestion.

It is native to Asia and it also has been used in cooking for over 4,000 years. Don't you love ginger cookies?

The root can be bought fresh or dried.

I am not sure of the health benefits but the thoughtfulness of my friend was appreciated and helped in itself.

It does make me think back to my Grandma giving me ginger ale when I had an upset stomach. I never knew then why she gave it to me but it almost always helped.

Here is a recipe you may like:

Ingredients:

    1. 1/2 cup coarsely chopped fresh ginger root (rinse before chopping).

    2. 3 cups water

    3. Honey (to your liking)

Directions

    1. Put the ginger root and water into a small pot.

    2. Let the mix boil. Then simmer for 10 minutes.

    3. Take a taste and continue to simmer if it is too weak. If it is too strong than more water is needed.

    4. It is now time to strain.

    5. Sweeten with honey to your liking.

    6. Enjoy!
