The Unique Glass Tea Kettle
The glass tea kettle is becoming very popular. More and more people are beginning to explore the different qualities and flavors of tea. This also includes ways to prepare it. Some people like the glass because of the non-metallic taste. One can argue that this makes a really good cup of tea. Types There are different styles and shapes of glass kettles on the market today. There are those with: 1. bamboo handles 2. long and short spouts 3. hand-blown matching glass burners.
Borosilicate Glass One thing they all have in common, however, is the borosilicate glass. This glass is referred to as "hard glass" in the glass blowing process of lampworking. A burner torch is used to create the different shapes. Quartz, sodium carbonate and calcium carbonate are normally used in "hard glass" and boron is added to specifically make borosilicate glass. Pyrex Brand First developed by German glass maker Otto Schott in the late 1800s. His brand name "Duran" was soon replicated by Corning Glass Works. They than began marketing their brand name of Pyrex in 1915. Their glass products are still popular today. Its reputation is one of being very durable and heat resistant. Some people collect the Pyrex tea pot. Popular Styles: 1. Pyrex Clear which is a thick clear style with a hint of light color to it. 2. Pyrex Flame ware is a clear thick glass style. 3. Pyrex Colors are solid colors with white designs imbedded such as flowers or leaves. Personally I like being able to see inside the pot and watch the water boil:)
