Delicious Recipes for English
Tea Sandwiches

English Tea Sandwiches

There are many recipes for English tea sandwiches as there are people. You can go the traditional path or use what you like.

My father would use plain white bread and cheese for us kids. He would cut the edges off the white bread and cut the sandwiches in four bite sized pieces.

The kids just thought of them as snacks but who knew we were actually having our own variety of a tea party.

English Tea Sandwiches

  • A loaf of very thin bread of your choice
  • Your favorite jam or jelly
  • Butter
  • Clotted cream (thick yellow cream made by heating milk and allowing it to cool. The layer of cream that forms is skimmed off).
  • Cucumbers
I usually will make sandwiches of bread and butter cut into small bite sized pieces like my father did along with bread and jelly. I think a good quality jam, butter and cream is a must, otherwise to me, it is not special.

Cucumber sandwiches are easy to make and actually the only time I will eat cucumbers. You can add butter if you like to the sandwich.
